Welcome to Butch and Beauty, a multimedia project celebrating butch womxn of all persuasions. I founded this project because I love butch womxn and that's great because I am one. It's not often that butch womxn are celebrated in the media or even portrayed in a positive light. Growing up is hard for everyone but particularly difficult for those of us who are coming of age while also growing into a marginalized identity. The goal of this project it to celebrate butch women and to give them a platform to tell their stories. By sharing the butch experience through this collection of images and stories I hope to address and deconstruct some of the stereotypes around butch womxn and individualize their identities. During my formative years, social media didn't exist as a resource, but I recognize its ability to reach huge numbers of people and to foster community for those that don't have access to safe spaces within their immediate social spheres. I am looking forward to connecting with and celebrating you.
